More Fun on 101

Humboldt Redwood State Park to Standish-Hickey State Recreation Park.
53 mi

Today was smooth sailin. Easy ridin. Casual cruisin. Well, for the most part.

We've chummed up with this Jon feller, who has been trying to bike to Berkeley without telling his boss that he's on vacation. So he tries to squeeze in a couple of solid hours of work on his laptop before he hits the road. We told him that we had plenty of room at our campsite, so at 330 am, Jon stumbles in. Redwood night-riding. Impressive.

The three of us got going in the morning and stopped in a funky town called Myers Flats. We should have known it was sketchy from this shotgun shelled mileage sign

I wasn't paying attention but when we stopped for coffee apparently we almost got in a fight with some local dude who did not appreciate cyclists. He said "your bikes are taking up too much space," to which Jon replied "well, your car takes up more space and pollutes our noses." It was time to leave after that.
We stopped at the next town for a quick beer, and we left Jon, who needed to work.

The rest of the day was easy, sailing along the good ole 101. Tonight we are camping at a state recreation center or something. I don't know what makes it different from a state park. We are in the real hiker-biker section! Only 5 bux a head, and we've reconnected with some fellow bikers we haven't seen since Oregon. Across the street there's a great burger joint, said to be one of the best on the west coast.
The Peg House -one of the best bacon cheese burgers I've had. Yum.

After dinner we trekked down to the Eel River and met a few friends: bats, spiders, and bull frogs.

This is our last camping night. I'm gonna miss making s'mores and drinking beer by a campfire, but I'm not gonna miss sleeping with Pat the Humidifier, who secretes all sorts of allergy related gunk. Every morning the tent is wet. And his feet smell cus he never takes a shower when we camp. Goddammit Pat.

San Fran in 4 days!
