Hella tree in Humboldt

Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park to Eureka, CA
52.6 mi

We had a nice relaxed ride down the California coast today, gliding through some epic redwood forests, and finding ourselves in the middle of Humboldt County. This is what a redwood forest looks like from the outside.

Its pretty magnificent.

Towards the beginning of our day, google maps directed us through some cutty ass path off the 101. It was a little spooky and we found ourselves trespassing along the outskirts of this crazy ghost town

We kept going for a bit but some dude in a government truck got us to turn around.
Back on 101, we climbed to Patrick's point.

Gotheem.

We weaved our way through the small towns of Northern California: Trinidad, Mckinleyville, etc. My Nannan's best friend from college, Marie, lives up here. She's a wonderful lady, and she took us out to dinner at a great pizza spot.

Her grandson graduated from the same high school as me, but two years later. Small world.
We stopped at humboldt state to check out their campus, which is remarkably similar to ups.

Arcada is a swell town and we were greeted by a hilariously random marching band. We also shared a few beers at a local pub.

Tonight we are sleeping at the not-so-rustic camping site KOA. I have some found memories of cousinfest 2002 at a nearby KOA site. Mini-golf, hottub, arcade, you name it they got it. We are in the hiker biker section all by ourselves, so we have tons of space.

We are splitting the 22 dollar ticket with two bike friends, so its quite a deal. We've been with Madison for a while, shes quite nice. The other, John, is a music major too!
We've just spent the past 3 ours chattin and hanging out by our fire. More smores and more beer.

As the fire flickers its final wisps of light, the murmur of the crickets has become more present. Indications that I should perhaps retire.

Goodnight my friends,
Sam
