Pat and I have been training for about 3 weeks now, and have totaled about 300 mi. Here's a list of some of our rides, click to see full route.
Ruston Way --> 5 mi Loop --> Scott Pierson Trail 20 mi
Steilacoom --> Chambers Bay 30 mi
Vashon Island Loop 40 mi
Gig Harbor --> Ollala 40 mi
Fife --> Fed Way 45 mi 45 mi
If you are in Tacoma and looking for some great rides, PLEASE check out the 5 mi loop at point defiance. It's Tacoma's dazzling top hat and certainly her finest attribute. Any biker can do it, and you should do it more then once if you're looking to train.
If you are a more advanced biker, I would recommend the Vashon Island loop. You've gotta cough up $6 bucks for the ferry, but its well worth the money. Great ride, and very friendly townsfolk.
The best word to describe our training process: humbling. It seems like every trip we learn something new. Sometimes old and fat people ride circles around us. Sometimes we realize we need a certain tool or piece of equipment. Other times we learn things like DON'T RIDE OVER TRAIN TRACKS WHEN ITS RAINING. YOU WILL FALL AND HIT YOUR KNEE REALLY HARD. Lot's of wonderful learning opportunities.
After exploring Steilacum lake, we faced some not-so-admirable weather. By the time we got home I couldn't feel my feet. Walking was an interesting experience. Have you ever faced the dilemma when you are taking a shower, but the water is too cold on your back, but your feet are burning like HELL? It sucks.
Since we will be doing so much coastal riding, the next day we sought a remedy to this problem.
Its called a Bike Booty.
It has been, by far, the most brilliant acquisition. Riding in the rain is now fun and warm. Except for those train tacks.
Now we look like this in our full rain gear
I know. Its cute.
We leave in 3 days!
Go Giants! Glad we avoided the sweep.
Sam and Pat. Without the Pat. Dick.
Pretentious Pat Moment of the Day:
On free shots of Jose Cuervo...
Pat: No! I'm not going to drink it. I only drink good tequila
Sam: Jeez Pat, I didn't know you were such a practiced taquilla drinker
Pat: I'm not.
Sam: Pat, you you need experience before you can become a snob.
Pat: No I don't. I Just need good taste. Which I have.

"Photo cred my lovely girlfriend" awwwwwwwwwww :p
